Progressive MS

Four disease courses have been identified in MS, of which three are characterized as “progressive.” The majority of people are diagnosed with a relapsing-remitting course, characterized by acute relapses that come and go with no disease progression in between. Of these, most will transition at some point to a course that is more consistently progressive with fewer or no relapses (secondary-progressive MS).

A small percentage of people have a progressive course right from the beginning and never experience any relapses (primary-progressive MS), or experience an occasional relapse along the way (progressive-relapsing MS). Read more on the four courses of MS
