Nov. 18th at 1:00 p.m. Just to give you an overview of what the research study will entail: It will last for 7 weeks with the 1st and last week involving going to Gainesville for a Swallow Study. They will be coming to your home in between once a week to remeasure your strength at blowing out. In between you will spend 5-10 minutes per day at home using a mechanical swallowing trainer. They will explain everything in the meeting. Just because you attend the meeting does not mean you have to participate. Some people will be chosen after the study for a follow-up study and will be outfitted with a Phone Buddy for once a month follow up. It sounds quite interesting and very promising. Should be a very interesting meeting. Please RSVP by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org to let me know that you will be attending this meeting as it is important to have a good turn-out for this. This is a great opportunity as it is very convenient and could be very beneficial to people with swallowing difficulties.

Doug Nagle, Physicians Asst. from www.countrysidehousecalls.com was so nice to fill in at the last minute to speak at our April 15th Meeting. (Our scheduled speaker had to reschedule to May 20th). Check out their web site and contact them the next time you dont feel like getting out of bed or waiting 10 hrs in an emergency room or waiting days to see the doctor or get a prescription, don't have the transportation or simply want some one on one attention for your medical needs.

We won't be having Cards & Games Day in December due to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our next lunch will be Wed. Jan. 14 at 1:00 p.m. at the new Gator's Dockside Restaurant off Rte. 200 near I-75, turn into KFC take 1st Rt., Gator's will be immediately on the right across from Kohl's.
We had a fun and informative meeting with Sharon McClurg, Yoga Instructor from The Wellness Center in The Villages. In attendance were Chuck and Dick Sanderson, Art and Peggy Bourgeois, Lisette Berrios, Ken Cieslak, Debbie and Daryl Dann and Ruth Taylor.
We talked about the seminar/lunch on Sat. We had Ulysses Singleton, DPT, Rehabilitation Sales Specialist, Innovative Neurotronics, Inc. -
Demonstrating: Walkaide for Foot Drop. This was a requested speaker by Ken Cieslak. Unfortunately, Ken got his weeks mixed up and missed the meeting. In attendance were Chuck and Dick Sanderson, Ruthie Taylor, Art and Peggy Bourgeois, Lisette Berrios and we were happy to have Debbie and Daryl Dann back from summer vacation and recent cruise with some of the people from The Villages MS Group. We talked about the upcoming NMSS Sea World Lottery for tickets which I had mentioned on our web site and in an email that had to be completed by 10/15. The Sea World event will take place on Sat. 11/15. There will be a seminar and breakfast in the morning followed by some booths and the afternoon at Sea World. Debbie Dann and I will also be attending the NMSS training on Friday 10/14. I also mentioned that Denise Bickerstaff, one of our members had given me some items for our next yard sale. I brought up the upcoming NMSS Walk to take place on Sat. March 28, 2009. I am on the MS Walk Committee again this year. I also mentioned that Pat Chuck and Jamie Elasick from NMSS would be joining us in December. I mentioned the wonderful turn-out at our last lunch at Mimis. We had 23 people and it was nice to see Robert and Barbara Goodwin again and Wayne and Chris Twitchell brought their two kids and was nice to see Raymond and Mara and their daughter Odalis along with many of our regulars. I mentioned that Art had been having more problems with his COPD and Peggy was doing better since her nerve blocks. I also mentioned that Mina Frank was still in rehab at Palm Gardens, but should be going home to their RV campground in Ocala nearby soon. She is still having alot of trouble since the operation on her syrinx and is still unable to walk. We talked about what a shame it was since she had been doing so well on the Tysabri before this happened and we all wished her well. I also mentioned that Fred Thren was home from the hospital after a 2nd stay for gout and a fall and that he was on oxygen for 16 hours a day now, but it seemed to be helping and he was doing much better. Fred and Peggy Thren were also supposed to have gone on the cruise with The Villages MS Group, but they had to cancel due to Fred's health. Hopefully they will be able to go on the next one in early 2010. I brought up the upcoming Halloween Party/Cards & Games Day to be on Wed. Oct. 29 at 11:00 a.m. at my mom's house at 7844 SE 135th St., Summerfield, FL (From 441S go past Market of Marion Flea Market, Take next Rt. onto SE 135th St., Then 1st House on Left.) It was mentioned to wear costumes and their would be lots of games and prizes. This is one of our most fun events all year. I mentioned I was still working on the MTRA Therapeutic Horseback Riding and that the Copaxone Rep., Nick that was working on sponsoring us had left the company and had said he had turned it over to a new Rep. I had been in contact with him, but he didn't seem to know anything about it and was checking with his boss. Update: They have a new process where you have to fill out an application online for a grant and need to have a tax id number and W-9 and be registered as a 501C organization. We do not fit these parameters. I took it up with the head of the grant section, Crystal McFedders and she said there was nothing they could do. I spoke to Helen at The MS Foundation yesterday and told her our predicament as we had already been told that Copaxone/Teva was going to sponsor us and volunteers had already been set up, etc. She told me to send her a note and she would send it to their special grant section and see what she could do. She called me back today (10/22) and said that we had been approved on the local level and they were sending it to the National Level for consideration. She said it could take up to 45 days to approve, but hopefully it will be worth waiting for. Helen and I also discussed having a bowling get-together with all the local MS Support Groups including Daytona, The Villages, Port Richey, Inverness, Tavares and anyone else that wanted to come to Ocala for a Bowlathon. We figured it would be a great way for the groups to mingle and introduce bowling to some of the groups that had not tried it. I also mentioned that we would be changing our bowling on the 1st of the month to 9:45 a.m. in order to bowl with the Fun Bowling Group. The cost would be $8.00 for 3 strings and you can win money back with colored pin strikes, picking up splits, getting strikes/spares in a row, etc., along with ways to win free games of bowling. They are also willing to split the 3 strings for some that are more handicapped and not able to do all 3 strings. We also changed our 2nd Wed. lunch time to 1:00 p.m. We also decided to change our meeting time starting in December to 1:00 p.m. so that some members could participate in the bowling more often and everyone seemed to like the new lunch and meeting time. **Please note although it was dicussed we would also change the November time, it will remain the same at 11:00 a.m. due to the fact that the Yoga Instructor that will also be demonstrating chair exercises would not be able to attend our meeting in the afternoon. Next month we will also discuss the Christmas Party. **Save the Date: Also, we will be having a Seminar/Lunch with Dr. Gaudier and possibly his Asst., Lacey sponsored by the Rebif Rep. who will also be there at 12:00 p.m. on Sat. 11/22 at the Ocala Hilton. A plated lunch will be served. Dr. Gaudier will be talking about Managing MS Symptoms such as Cognitive, Bladder Issues, Sexual Issues, Numbness, etc. and dealing with symptoms from the CRAB therapies and a Q & A session. I will be giving out more details as to meal choice, etc. as soon as I have them and it will be necessary to RSVP and seating will be limited. We will not be having a Cards & Games Day in November due to Thanksgiving or December due to Christmas.
We had an awesome meeting this month. We had Douglas Nagle, PA-C under Melvin Seek, M.D. Medical Director from Countryside Housecalls, Inc. talking about the great medical services his company offers. They do in-house medical appointments. The Physician Assistant will spend as much time as you need listening, observing, and understanding your needs to assure accurate diagnosis and treatment. They treat most non-emergency medical conditions; for a complete list, please see their list of Conditions Treated on their Services page or call them at 352-854-4985. Appts. are usually within a few hours or by the next day. What a great opportunity for everyone that may not be able to get to an appt. or is just not feel up to going out for an appt. or simply for a quicker appt. and more personalized care than you can get by going to your doctor. It does not replace your need for your regular Neuro, but it is sure great in the meantime. For only $49 for the first half hour, they will come to your home for a medical appt. Fees are based on time (face to face). You will be told and charged prior to treatment for the cost of supplies to be used and services needed, for example: blood drawing, stitches, lab work and x-ray interpretation. You will need to pay all costs up front, but most insurance companies and even medicare will reimburse you afterwards and they will provide you with the paperwork you need to file with them. Please visit their web site at www.countrysidehousecalls.com for more info. We also had our Copaxone Rep., Nick LaCasse. It was so nice to have him back in our area. Thru his help, we are also hoping to have Copaxone sponsor us for our MTRA Therapeutic Horseback Riding which will take place on Fridays. There will be 2 groups of 5 one at 11:00 a.m. and one at 1:00 p.m. starting some time around the beginning of October for 10 weeks. That way the weather will be cooler. This is on a first come first served basis, so hurry and reserve your spot. RSVP by going to our web site at www.mcmsgroup.com/activitieswithsignup.htm . Nick also arranged for Dr. Kantor to have a Q&A Dinner with us and is sponsoring us at Logan's Roadhouse in May. Our Serono Rep. (Rebif) is also providing us with dinner at Mimi's Cafe' in May. Jean's mom's birthday party/cookout is also this month along with our end of year Pool Party at Art and Peg's house in Summerfield. We will also have our MCMSGroup Yard Sale this month to be held at Jean's mom and dad's in Summerfield. Thank you to all those that have offered to help and be there to represent us. It's a busy month as we are trying to squeeze everything in before our Summer break. We will not be having our regular activities between June and August. All of our regular activities will resume in September.
We had two speakers this month. The first speaker was from Central Mobility in Tavares. (They deliver to Ocala) She talked about adaptive equipment and customizing equipment options, etc. We also had Jason Ambrose from Avonex/Tysabri. He talked about the advantages of using Avonex since it is a once/week shot. We also discussed Tysabri in great detail. It is infused (intravenously) once/month in a hospital type setting. One of our members, Mina told everyone how happy she has been with Tysabri and feels like she has gotten her life back. She also offered to be an advocate for Tysabri. Jason explained it is normally recommended for those that have failed another form of MS treatment. We also discussed about some concerns that there had been about Tysabri and how closely it is monitored now to prevent any issues, etc.
I announced that Nick LaCasse from Copaxone is working on sponsoring us for our Therapeutic Horseback Riding program thru MTRA. We will be having a group "field trip" on Thursday, April 17th at 10:30 a.m. at the Hillcrest Facility of MTRA so everyone can see the place and decide who wants to participate in September after the hot summer months are over with. Nick from Copaxone will also be sponsoring and attending our next month's meeting in May. Nick is also working on setting up Dr. Cantor, a Neurologist, to come bowl with us and then have a Q & A lunch session afterwards. We are working on a Saturday at the beginning of May. We will also be having a Physician's Assistant, Douglas Nagle, from County Side House Calls talking about In-home medical care and treatment. Imagine a doctor that makes house calls for only $49.00 for the first 30 minutes in your home and most insurance companies will cover it, but you will have to file your own paperwork. For more info. go to www.countrysidehousecalls.com . Don't miss this meeting. It is our last one before our summer break and should be a great one!
We talked abou the MS Walk for NMSS that was held at the Villages. Jean raised over $1,500. Peg also participated along with Sheryl. I also thanked Denise and the Sanderson's for their generous contributions. Red and Cathy and Art also were at the walk along with Lynn Zeuch. Mara and her daughter Odalis came to cheer everyone on along with Jean's mom and dad.
We had our 50/50 and raised $20 which we donated to the soldiers in Iraq. Jeff Deason packages items up and send them to Iraq. He has also shown us Thank You's from the Troops. It was also Jeff's idea when drawing the name that the winner would receive a choice of gifts that were going to be donated to the MCMSGroup Yard Sale. The first name drawn was Jeff, and since he had brought the items he asked us to draw another name. The name drawn was Carrie. She was very excited to choose a bath/beauty set. We talked about the upcoming MCMSGroup Yard Sale to be held on Friday, May 23rd and Saturday, May 24th at Jean's mom's house at 7844 SE 135th St., Summerfield, FL. Money raised will help our group to pay for the web site, materials needed, copies, etc. Flyers were handed out about the yard sale for the members to hand out to raise awareness.
We also talked about the upcoming Cards & Games Day/Pool Party/Cookout on Wednesday, May 21st at Art and Peg's house in Summerfield, FL. People are requested to RSVP and ask what they can bring.
Jean's mom's 80th Birthday is coming up and Jean is having a Surprise 80th Birthday Party/Cookout for her at her mom's home at 7844 SE 135th St., Summerfield, FL on Saturday, May 17th at 12:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
The next Saturday lunch is Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Cracker Barrel on Rte. 484 at the intersection of I-75 in Belleview, FL.
We had another great meeting. We had 2 new members and a member that we hadn't seen for about a year. We want to welcome Kenneth Cieslak and Emilie Hogg to our Group and hope they will be joining us at our other activities as well. We also want to welcome back Carrie Montgomery. She had some very successful surgery and looked great. Art & Peggy Bourgeois were there along with Fred Thren, Ruth Taylor, Chuck Sanderson and his mom and dad, Mina and Donald Frank, Janet and Jeff Deason, Lynn and Ed Kreczmer, Mara and her dauther, Odalis Villanueva (who is signing up to join our group on the MS Walk), and Sue and Chuck Young (they may be moving back to an Assisted Living place in Michigan and to be closer to family), and of course, myself, Jean McGrail. Lynn Zeuch is in Germany for 2 months. Deb and Daryl Dann were supposed to have been on a cruise, but had to cancel it and go to Michigan to be with Deb's mom that is having heart surgery. They plan on staying thru the whole recuperating period, which will be about 6-8 weeks. We had our 50/50 drawing and raised $32. The 1st half was of $16 dollars was decided to be donated to the Soldiers in Iraq again and Ruth was the winner of the other half of $16 and decided to donate that to the Soldiers as well. Jeff Deason is in charge of this outreach effort and had a Thank You from them for the last items that were sent from our group. We are happy that Jeff is doing better after his time in the hospital. It looks like he is going to be able to avoid surgery of his gallbladder/pancreas at least for now with watching his diet. I also mentioned about Elaine Renshaw's condition as I had visited with her yesterday. Her leg is still extremely swollen from the blood clot that goes from her ankle to the top of her thigh and she still has pain from it especially after her twice a week physical therapy. Her spirits are good as always. We're all pulling for you Elaine. We also had a good speaker. His name was Jim Samuelson and he was representing www.HomeInstead.com. He spoke about all the different services they offer to help people that require extra assistance such as meals being made, trips to the doctor, etc.in order for them to maintain their independent lifestyle. I talked about my meeting with a Representative from Congressman Stearn's Office last week. I had received an email due to being an MS Activist thru NMSS mentioning that they would be in our area if I would like to come talk to them about any MS related issues, etc. Deb and Daryl Dann also went with me. We discussed "Code Orange" for Vets and how they only have 7 years to be diagnosed with MS and get Disability thru the VA due to MS, which makes it difficult since the initial symptoms can sometimes be ignored such asd headaches, etc. Daryl wasn't diagnosed for about 10 years. The Rep. couldn't believe it and is going to try to help guide them thru the appeal process. We also mentioned to them about the waiting period for Social Security and how long it takes to get Medicare and also about trying to get the MS Guidelines for Social Security changed to include Cognitive problems and other issues. I also talked about the meeting I went to at the Villages yesterday and about where the Research money from NMSS goes and Jenna's talk on Legislative issues. We discussed the upcoming MSWalk in the Villages at Polo Field on March 29. I mentioned that I had already raised $540 and was going to walk with my wheeled walker with a seat and then switch to my scooter. Sheryl Miglio is also walking and has raised $75 in the last couple days and as I mentioned Mara's daughter Odalis is going to be joining our team. I handed everyone an MSWalk Poster and a card with the donation address and also mentioned again for them to forward the letter I had sent them requesting donations to their friends and family. I also handed out pledge sheets for anyone that wanted to try and get other pledges for the MSWalk. I was happy to see that Denny's (our new meeting place) had posted the MSWalk Poster that I had left for them. Starting around March 1st after they are done collecting for MD, they are supposed to start collecting for our MSWalk with the $1.00 MS feet. Janet Deason bought 2 MS air fresheners. I still have a few more if anyone is interested. They are $3.00 each and $1.00 goes to NMSS, $1.00 went to the person that made them and $1.00 goes to our club. We also tried to watch the mini movies of the winners of the NMSS contest, but couldn't seem to get my laptop loud enough. I mentioned that they could access them thru our web site. At the end of the meeting Ed Kreczmer noticed that there was a TV/DVD player there that we could have used that may have worked better. We will try again next month. We did a little of the Yoga and Laughter. Carrie mentioned about some issues she had in the past with Avonex flu symptoms and we talked about taking Alleve before and after the shot to avoid them. I also mentioned about the lates issues with Tysabri and Melanoma. Mina Frank mentioned that she was very pleased with her progress with Tysabri. I mentioned that Cards & Games Day was back at my mom and dad's house due to Debbie being in Michigan and that we would be celebrating their Anniversary and would have cake and ice cream along with finger sandwiches. We will have the Wii game system there and will be starting a Wii League. I also mentioned about the upcoming Seminar at the Ocala Hilton on March 15th with a Neuro from Jacksonville that has a Vision of opening a "One-Stop MS Clinic" and also discussing oral pills in the works for MS, etc. I also mentioned the other Seminar on Cognitive Issues in Gainesville. I also handed out pamphlets from MSAA and MSF.
We had a great January Meeting. In attendance were Mara Villanueva (New Member) that I'm sure will fit right in and will be a great asset to our group. Her husband Raymond was also with her. Sue and Chuck Young, Tom Frederick, Kim Cavanaugh and Janet and Jeff Deason were also there. Janet and Kim talked about an MS Web site that they had come across and wanted to share with our group. A couple of us have already joined. It is a great site to share life with MS. It is also a good way to track your symptoms and can also be a helpful way to communicate with others including your doctor about changes in your condition. Jeff showed everyone the Thank You card send by the Troops in Iraq for the donations that we had sent along with an example of one of the packages he sent them from our group. We had our 50/50 drawing and I had announced that this time instead of the money going back to our group it would be donated to the Troops in Iraq thru Jeff. There was a total of $24 collected and $12 was to go to the Troops and the winner of the other $12 was Jeff so Jeff had a total of $24 to go to the Troops. Lisette Berrios and Colette Dix were also there along with Ruth Taylor and Lynn Foy-Zeuch. Fred Thren was there and talked about how he turned his $1 scratch off lottery ticket from the Christmas party into a $10,000 winner! Way to go Fred! Sometimes it pays to be a gambler! Art Bourgeois was there, but his wife, Peggy was unable to be there due to some problems with the meds she was taking for her Parkinsons. Hope you feel better soon Peggy. Debbie and Daryl Dann were unable to be there due to participating in a Progressive MS seminar that required them to be home on their computer. Participating in surveys like these is another way to help with creating a better understanding of the disease. I was there along with Diane Howe who was our guest speaker doing a session on Yoga and Laughter. We all laughed, clapped hands and did breathing exercises. A great time was had bay all and I'm sure everyone went home feeling more relaxed and laughing inside! I'm sure many will continue to do the exercises at home. We were also supposed to have Jamie from NMSS talking about the upcoming MS Walk in March, but she was unable to be there due to an NMSS Staff Meeting. She did send some brochures and handouts which we handed out at the meeting. We also talked about upcoming webcasts, teleconferences and Seminars. There is going to be a Seminar on Cognition in Gainesville, FL on Saturday, March 8 and a Seminar at the Ocala Hilton on Saturday, March 15 with a Neurologist that has recently re-located from Missouri to Jacksonville, FL. He has a vision of opening an all-in-one One-Stop MS Clinic in Jacksonville. I also went over the upcoming MCMSGroup Activities including lunch Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Randy's Rib Shack in Dunnellon, Cards & Games next Wednesday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. at my mom's house in Summerfield, FL near the Market of Marion Flea Market with Beef Stew for Lunch and Dinner at Kotobuki Japanese Steak House on Wednesday, January 30 at 4:30 p.m. We will be having bowling on February 6 and Billiards on February 8. There is also a Couples Retreat in St. Petersburg coming up on February 17-19 by NMSS with a grant from Teva. I have decided to start off every meeting with a 15 minute Yoga/Laughter session starting with shaking hands with each other and laughing! Laughter is the best medicine!

I mentioned to them about NMSS Sea World and mentioned how one of our membes, Eileen Shorten had shared her extra tickets with other members in our group and Lynn Zeuch also shared her extra tickets with one of our members. Several of our members brought in items for Jeff Deason to mail to his son in Iraq. Sheryl Miglio mentioned a reach-out idea to others. I told her I had been thinking about Christmas Caroling to a Nursing home. I asked her if she would like to be in charge of the reach-out idea and get back to me with some different options that we could discuss with our group and she accepted. Our next bowling will be Wednesday, Dec. 5th at 11:00 a.m. at AMF Galaxy East on Rte 464 in Ocala. Our next lunch will be Wed. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, December 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Perkins Restaurant at 3435 SW College Rd. (Rte 200) in Ocala and we will have a speaker from Dr. Croley's office that will be talking about optical neuritis and other issues with the eyes associated with M.S. I mentioned about using our web site to check for Seminars and upcoming events and activities and to look for resources and to let me know of anything that they hear of that they think might be of interest to others. I also mentioned we would like to see more inspirational stories like Lynn's story of climbing the Alps and that by providing us with them it truly is an inspiration to others. I also asked them to leave comments on the blog as it is an easy way to send get well wishes, congratulations or make other comments to others in our group. Debbie Dann mentioned about the different comments left in our guestbook and how interesting it was to hear from other groups, etc. that had visited our web site. I also told them about the virtual Christmas gift section on our home page where they can send a virtual gift to our members saying what they would like to send to our group if they could and to read what others have sent. I told the group that we would not be having our Cards & Games Day, Billiards Day or Saturday lunch until after the holidays. I also want to thank Colette Dix for mentioning her appreciation of our web site. She took the Marion Transit system to get there. We're so happy she could join us and look forward to seeing her again soon. Sheryl and Grant Miglio were there along with Marylyn and Stan Peel. Lisette Berrios was also able to join us again and was so thankful to Janet and Jeff Deason for bringing her some Betaseron. Lisette gave them a beautiful floral arrangement as her way of saying thanks and was nice enough to get me one as well. I also mentioned about one of our members, Chuck Sanderson having to have additional surgery for a blood clot in the brain following his surgery for tremors. I am happy to say he is now home and is doing well. He is able to use his right hand to feed himself now without tremors. We look forward to seeing him soon at our upcoming activities.

We had a fantastic meeting this month! Melissa Mulcahy and Gabriel from NMSS were there. Melissa talked about the exciting upcoming things with NMSS. Lots of things are in the works and all for the better! She will keep us updated and I will keep everyone in our group updated as soon as I hear any new news! We also had a surprise visit from a new Neurologist in town. His name is Dr. Berkowski. Some of you might remember him from an M.S. seminar in Gainesville last year. Art and I saw him and he was great. He will still be in Gainesville 3 days a week, but now will also be in Ocala 2 days a week. He had heard about the other Neuro. group in Ocala breaking up and felt there was a need so thought he would help out Ocala, He will be coming back for our May meeting and will be talking about MRI's and how to interpret them and what they mean and how that all affects our M.S. He will also be talking about Cognitive Issues with M.S. and will have a Question/Answer session open to everyone in our group. Write your questions down as you think of them and have them ready. It's not often you get the opportunity to have a Neurologist willing to spend the time and open it up for questions/answers. It should be an awesome meeting. Let's try to have a great turn-out! Unfortunately I will not be able to attend as I will be in Massachusetts and New Hampshire visiting my 101 year old grandmother again. I'm trying to spend as much time with her as I can as she has been a wonderful influence in my life and someone I greatly admire! Art will be heading up our meeting. Remember, this will be our last meeting for the summer. We will resume again in September. All other activities will continue throughout the summer. Art will fill in whenever I'm not there and I will keep things going when he's away. Art will remain a very integral part of the club. Attending our April Meeting were Art and Peg Bourgeois, Jean McGrail, Lynn Zeuch, Ruthie Taylor was on vacation, Tom Frederick is gone thru the summer. Chuck Sanderson and his dad were at the meeting, along with Mr. and Mrs. Steinmetz, and we were happy to have Stan and Marylyn Peel back with us. (I'll be back from Mass. for that! Please go to our sign-up activity page and let us know what you can bring. Hamburgers and Hotdogs will be provided by the club. Don't forget to bring your bathing suit!
We had a great meeting today. We had a speaker from Innovative Neurotronics, Ulysses Singleton, DPT talking about an electronic stimulation device for foot drop. It has been less than a year since it has been FDA approved, so it is not yet approved by Medicare. The good news is it should soon be covered by Medicare and it is already approved thru the VA. Otherwise it would be about $4,500. It is an awesome device. We watched a video showing people that had little movement in their legs walking very smoothly. Almost all of our members tried it and showed success in the muscle stimulation. It would have to be programmed to the individual to know exactly how much it would help with the walking, but it showed great promise!! Everyone was enthusiastic about it. In attendance were Art Bourgeois, Peggy Bourgeois, Jean McGrail, Ruthie Taylor, Lynn Zeuch, Tom Frederick, Chuck Sanderson and his dad, Debbie Dann and Daryl Dann and some much missed members from the past...Lynn and Ed Kreczmer along with 2 new members, Deborah Steinmetz and her husband.

Art announced that he will no longer be running the club after May as his health has made it harder for him. Jean will be taking over, but Art will still be filling in when she's not there and Art & Peg will still remain a vital part of the group and still plan on staying as active in the group as they can. Things really shouldn't be much different than they have always been. Lynn announced that she will be starting up a Night Support Group in her home. More details to come on that.
We discussed the 3 upcoming local seminars in Ocala in April and the importance of attending them as the more people that attend, the more often we should have them in Ocala. We also talked about our upcoming Semi-Annual M.S. Yard Sale on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 20 and the importance of everyone doing their part to make it successful. Flyers were handed out and asked if each person could distribute them to local doctors and grocery stores, etc.,
We will be having Melissa Mulcahy from the National Society at our April meeting. Don't miss it! Let's have a great turn-out!

WalkAide is a medical device that, after more than a decade in development has received marketing clearance from the FDA for improving the walking ability of people experiencing foot drop. Invented by a team of researchers at a major university, WalkAide simulates the typical nerve-to-muscle signals in the leg and foot, causing the foot to lift at the appropriate time in the walking cycle. The resulting movement is a smoother, more natural, and safer stepping motion.

We had a great meeting today at Perkins and had a fantastic turn-out! Lynn is back from Germany, Tom is back from Ohio, Deb and Daryl are back and we had an unexpected visit from Donald and Mina who took time out from their RVing to be with us. Stan and Marylyn had planned on coming, but Marylyn came down with a virus last night. We hope you feel better Marylyn. Bob and Barbara were there and Chuck and his mom were there. It was nice to see his mom again! Joe and Elaine were there and Ruthie was also there. Art and Peg couldn't make it as they were with some relatives visiting from Canada in Daytona for a couple of days.
Nurse Carol discussed cognitive issues with MS and Optical Neuritis. As always, she did a great job. We also discussed the situation with the Ocala Neurologists that were splitting up and what that meant for us. Dr. Ng is in Virginia, Dr. Howell will only be doing the hospitals and Dr. Gaya and Dr. Gaudier will only be at the building on 18th Ave. until the building is sold. Once it is sold, they will also be splitting up and opening their own practices, but is not certain if they will be staying in our area. Let's hope so! We also talked to Nurse Carol about us having another Page on our web site that people could mention MS issues they are dealing with that she would be willing to respond to on our web site. Keep in mind that this will be general information only and that she will not be checking on a daily basis, and if it is anything you need an answer for right away, you need to check with your doctor. I will be creating a page for this.
We also discussed our MS web site and the importance of checking it often and using the RSVP/submit option for responding to Activities. We talked about the blogs for stories and that anyone was welcome to submit stories and/or pictures of any trips, or day to day situations (happy or sad) and that anyone can post a comment to any of the blogs. Next month's luncheon will be at Pasta Faire in Belleview on November 8th. Next month's MS meeting will be on November 15th.
We talked about next Wednesday's Cards and Games day at my mom's house! She will be making meatloaf and mashed potatoes and gravy. It will be a combination Halloween Party and we would like those that come to be in costume if possible. It should be lots of fun!
We talked about the upcoming MS Yard Sale that will be held on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 and the importance of people participating with both items for sale and set-up or just being there in general.
Joe, from the Villages MS Group, talked about the MS Villages Group vs. The Marion County MS Group bowling that took place on Tuesday, October 10th. Everyone that went had a great time. He also mentioned the upcoming trip to Hard Rock Casino in Tampa that his group is going to the end of January 2007. Anyone from our group is welcome to go as well. They are hiring a bus for everyone. The bus can accomodate wheelchairs and scooters underneath in the storage area. The only issue would be that anyone going must be able to walk up the 3 steps to get into the bus. It will cost $20/per person and you will receive some free play, etc. Joe also mentioned we are all welcome to go to any of his groups activities and we told him his group is welcome to come to any of ours.
We also decided that we would like to have an MS Dinner at Kotobuki Japanese Steak House on Rte. 200 (in with KMart and Best Buy) in Ocala. It will be at 4:00 p.m. (which is the soonest they are open for dinner) and hopefully that way everyone would be able to get home before dark. We decided it would be during the week, but we did not want to give up our regular luncheon, so it would be in addition to that on a different day. I will set up the day and let everyone know! It should be alot of fun!
